DEVELOPMENT HELL

BROWN-RIHANNA WORSE THAN MCCAIN-PALIN

10.24

Beyond the financial, real estate, and war crises, there is another problem eroding the welfare of our country. Chris Brown and Rihanna are dominating the music charts, and they must be stopped. I’m convinced the current prince and princess of pop were sent by robots or the devil to destroy what’s left of music. What’s worse – the two of them, allegedly a couple, are in cahoots.

Let’s start with Chris Brown. Cute. Non-threatening. Great dancer. I saw a Wrigley’s Double Mint Gum commercial with Chris singing* and dancing in it. That same week, I heard his top five single, Forever, on the radio. I thought, “That sounds like the gum song.” Imagine the horror in discovering the real song ACTUALLY contains the lyrics

Double your pleasure

Double your fun

Are you fuckng kidding me? This kid took gum lyrics and used them in a song? This is a danceable form of conglomerate brainwashing. And they’re not even trying to disguise it. The audacity!

October 25, 2008 6:55pm YES! You heard it, too? I thought I was crazy, or that whoever wrote this song just allowed this ad slogan to seep into their "art" without really thinking about it. I haven't seen the commercial, or else I might have figured it out. Thank you SO very much for pointing this out.

October 25, 2008 11:29pm Ok... what has your panties in a bunch... there are worst singers out there.... ok you don't like their music... don't insult them... there are some people out there who do. I happen to love Rihanna and Chris but best believe I wasn't brainwashed into doing so. And just so you know my like for her has little to do with a hairstyle... But the music I like is really my business and just because I enjoy their music does not mean you have to as well but I have another problem with this whole "article"... whoever "attempted" to draw Rihanna and Chris should never be given a pencil and paper again... I'm more offended by the drawings than your article and that's saying alot...

October 26, 2008 5:28pm I'm glad you take pride in your "work" and perhaps your artist eye is different from mine but your rendition of Chris and Rihanna is truly far off.... It appears as if you looked at photos of Chris and Rihanna in a funhouse mirror and then decided to draw them... never truly representative of how a person looks... Me personally I prefer the pencil to the pen... it allows me to correct whatever mistakes I may make while drawing... but to each its own...

November 02, 2008 5:20am Katie! I'm glad that you wrote this little blurb about the music industry. It's a true (and adorable!) indictment of a system that's decaying from the inside. But why pick now to rail on that river of sizzling shit known as pop music?? Where were you at when David Hasselhoff farted out “Looking for Freedom?” German public opinion be damned!

November 03, 2008 10:27am I never considered the Hoff a serious threat. Also, just so I'm clear. I am supremely lame in my love of pop music. I'm not gonna front like I don't have a Richard Marx song on my ipod. I grew up in Orlando, so, what can I say? My particular beef is with these two and their specific brand of ick.

November 04, 2008 12:49pm My heart melted once I saw you mugging with a half-in-the-bag Naomi Leonard, so I'd have to say that I am forgiving of anything and everything that you do or say. However, I would be careful with the admission that you are a Richard Marxist. During these turbulent political times, it could come back to haunt you (and it would be tragic if something so seemingly insignificant rendered a negative impact over your One Hott Mess VoteOrDie! votes ...)

November 04, 2008 2:54pm FunnyOrDie! I meant ... FunnyOrDie!! (I must have had Poof Diddely on the brain while writing that last blurb ... no thanks the result of all that talk about bad music).
